Angry Dash Lights Wont Work And Headlights

I’m having some problems with my 96 aurora 88k… you know how at night when you start the car and it automatically turns the lights on (dash, exterior headlights est.??? Well mine used to do that until yesterday… yesterday it did not do that… I pressed unlock on my keyless and it just turned on the head lights for 2 seconds and turned them off ( usually they stay on until you open the door)then opened the door and it started to make a chirm noise like when you leave the keys on while the car is off it reminds you just like that… I started the car and nothing. After driving for 3 minutes everything turned on…today it did the same thing accept it never came on again… drove 22 miles home from school on the highway and nothing…. Oh yea on more things my fog lights keep burning out… I noticed that one way burned today…. Tell me what the problem might be…. HELP thanks

Re: Dash Lights Wont Work And Headlights

Just posted a similar topic. All I can say is check your rear fuse box especially the 25 amp park lmp (#30). This corrected an intermittent dash board light problem on a '97. Good luck!

I just found the manual, and it says that the parking lamp fuse #30 is a 15 amp fuse. Is it different fuses for different years? I have a 1995.

Anusemoon, use this link to my old post about cleaning the multifunction switch http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=198519 You have all the tell tale signs of a switch that needs cleaning. Just follow my instructions exactly as written and PM me if you have any problems gettin it done.

Smoove, did you check the 10amp "INT LPS" fuse? It's in the instrument panel fuse box. I'm assuming you are talking about the illumination lamps for your dash.

Re: Dash Lights Wont Work And Headlights

Thumpin, thanks a lot. That was the fuse. I checked that fuse a long time ago, but I must have just looked at one side of it. One side was obvious that the link was broken, while the other side looked pretty good. Finally I can see at night! The strange thing is that this is the first time that my fog light indicator has been lit. Even when the dash lights were working it wasn't lit. Now I just need to change the fogs. Thanks again!

Anusemoon, it's well worth cleaning the multi-function switch. Follow the instructions as posted and I can bet your headlight woes will be over. Sounds like your fog lamps have overheated which is probably unrelated to your multifunction switch problem. Short bulb life for the fog lamps seems to be an issue with the classic. Both fog lamps were burned out on my 95 when purchased one year ago. When removing I noted that the burned out ones were GE brand. I installed Sylvania #893 halogens and both are still lit. This says alot for the Sylvanias seeing as my fog lamp switch is always on. I would turn them off but when I try the whole switch wants to push back into the dash which I found out is another common problem on the classic. Obviously the fog lamp housings don't dissipate heat very well as witnessed by your damaged lamp sockets. Do you think a previous owner may have installed some exotic aftermarket euro style lamps that were putting off just enough extra heat to screw up the sockets?

Smoove, glad it was just the fuse on your dash lamps. Any ideas as to what could have made the fuse blow??

Re: Dash Lights Wont Work And Headlights

I have no idea thumpin. One night I was trying to eject a CD from the radio and the bam...the whole dash went dark. I wonder if the fog light indicator has never been on because the fuse wasn't burned all the way through. I guess I'll try those sylvania 893s that you mentioned. Thanks again.

Re: Dash Lights Wont Work And Headlights

About the fog lights, mine used to burn out constantly. I was replacing them every other week. Then I replaced them again a few months ago (might almost be a year ago by now), and they have just kept on working. They never go out anymore. (I just ginksed myself now.) Make sure not to touch the bulb when putting them in though. That will dramatically shorten the life of the bulb.
