Re: Engine light on, Intrigue '99 3.8

My daughter's 98 intrigue did that - she had an injector stuck open - it was dumping fuel into #6. It could also be a wire or spark plug, or clogged injector, coil, etc.

Yes, you need a scan tool to check the codes. It will tell you what cylinder the miss is on. Autozone could probably read the code for you.

Keep in mind, if it is a stuck open injector it may be dumping raw fuel into the exhaust and cat converter, so you may not want to drive it that way.

Thank-you for the info wedo not have autozones in Canada. Guys if any of you live in toronto and have a scan tool that I could borrow let me know. I do have a scan reader but it is only good upto 95 GM cars.

Well I fixed the stumpling at various speeds. I decided to start with the plugs and that was it. Problem fixed. Don't believe GM when they claim that the plugs will last 160,000km or 100,000 miles. Mine start going at 105,000km or 60,000 miles. I guess the gas in the Toronto area is bad. I have heard many experts claim that our Canadian gas is loaded with sulfur I now believe. Oh yaw it was a bear trying to remove the spark plug boots they were almost melted on the plugs and for 1 of the plugs I had to remove the oxgen sensor in order to remove the plug 3.8 engine
