2 stories (one street, one track) ...

I was just reading some of your great stories about kills and what not and I realized I have never really told stories on here

So here are two for you:

Story 1 ~ on the street: 1998, on the main cruising street of Lebanon PA in a black 91 turbo MR2 I sued to own. It had a GReddy turbo kit and GReddy intercooler.
I roll up to a light and this white VW Fox with 17s and a big ole tip rolls up next to me on my left.

The streets are fairly narrow so we are pretty close. I have the t-tops out and windows and they have the windows down. It was a chick driving and a dude in the passenger seat. I had my friend Mike with me (a fellow MR2 owner).

The guy in the fox does what I call "the rim look." After looking at my rims he looks and says, "Nice ride."
I say, "Thanks."
He says, "Is it fast?"
I reply, "Sure."
He asks, "What do you have in there that makes it so fast?"
I said,"I installed a BFT."
He knowingly says, "OH, okay" ... nodding in understanding. A secnd passes, he looks confused and says, "Hey .... what's a BFT?"

I replied, "A big F'n turbo" .... the light turned green and I smoked them off the line. My friend Mike was dying the passenger seat!! ... It was hilarious ~ the look on the kids face.

Mike told me later that he was completely confused because he knew my car really well, but he also had no idea what a BFT was.

Story 2 ~ at the track:
This was 2 years ago when I was running low 13s and I was trying hard for my first 12.
I took Hyde to Maple Grove Raceway for an open track night and I ended up in the lanes with about 6-8 domestics cars.

Everyone was real friendly. My first race was against a women in her early 30's driving the newer Firebirds (Sorry I do not know my years) ... but the ones that have the big agressive looking vents in the "nose."
It was red with the yellow lettering on the side if that helps.

So we roll up and I ran a 13.9 to her 13.6. She pointed out that I almost had her with my better reaction time. I was confused that my time was so slow, but then I realized I never turned my boost controller up
I told her that was a low boost run ... she said well turn it and see what you got.

The second round she had her brother drive and I nailed a 13.1 to his 13.5. Then they started asking qestions ... lol

On the next round I faced the woman again and she redlighted bad.
I hit a 13.0 to her 13.7 so I still took her. When we got back to staging, she admitted redlighting on purpose to try and at least beat me to the ned of the track

The 4th round I raced a mid-80s Iroc style camaro. I nailed a 13.0 and he was pretty far back by 1/2 track and I suspect he got off of it since he ran a mid-high 14.

Th 5th round, I rolled down the lanes and the pile of domestics were sitting way at the top of the lanes ... no one was rolling down, so I ran solo. When I got back to the pits I asked the girl and her brother why no one was rolling down the lanes. She said none of the domestics wanted to run me any more

It worked out in my favor because that solo run is when I nailed my first 12 .... 12.8 to be exact. I appreciated not having a distraction in the other lane.

.... that's all for now

So you didn't run into a car that could beat you? Nice day at the track. What kind of trap speeds are you turning in? And all hail the MR2, they are such nice little cars. Love em.

Re: 2 stories (one street, one track) ...

I'm sure there cars there that night that could have beat me ... on open track days there are 6 lanes and they try to group the cars close to people with similar ETs.

However, the guys in tech ALWAYS underestimate my car being a 4 cylinder and I usually end up in a slower group, which quite honestly sucks.

My trap speeds this year have been 116-118. I suspect they are about to exceed 120.
At the time of the story above I was around 110.

hahah i like that BFT. i think i'll use it for now. anyways thats great to see them cower at their the feet of a 4 banger. 1 question. when i get my injectors, and running 12 psi i will most likely be required to wear a helment. do they rent helments at english town?

Yes. I think it is $3 and they hold your license until you give the helmet back.
