Exclamation Help my Power Mirror Shakes

Hello, I have a 97 Grand Marquis LS that has power mirrors and they both work but the drivers mirror shakes once you go past 30-40 mph, the car is in great shape with low miles, just that mirror thing is an issue.

Any ideas what I can do at home at all to make it stop shaking?

Thanks,

Bill

Is it just the glass or the whole mount? If the mount, there should be a couple of screws to tighten it up. If the glass, check to see if the glass is loose or if it's an internal part. If glass is loose, then can reglue with something from your local parts store. But if it's internals then you may need a new unit.

by hand I sorta tried to move the mirror around (to see if it was simply the mirror coming off the mount) but it felt firm, it only shakes at around 30+mph, and it moves fine (power wise), I dont really see a way to get in there and or tighten anything from the edges around the mirror (will move it extreme sides and try to peek in and see if I can see or access anything) but wondered if it was a common problem or had an easy fix...without taking it to the dealer and having them charge me a ton to fix it.

Other than what we've discussed, I can't think of an easy fix -- other than taking a good look at it (on a lonely and straight road of course) while driving to see exactly WHAT is shaking, in order to narrow down the area that's loose. It may be a dealer fix.

I gave up and called the dealer, I had bought the car not too long ago and they were cool enough to help me out on it since the salesman remembered the mirror did shake before I bought it...

Next week I go in for that to get repaired, (part on order), gonna also have them look at my rear seatbelt, its stuck and wont come out, not cool when you have to buckle in the 4 yr old!!! EKSSS!

Wish me luck, that seatbelt thing may cost me more than getting the mirror fixed!

Sounds like a decent dealer and salesman, you're lucky they're helping you out. I've got a 5 year old so understand the buc king in thing!! Luckily you've likely got 3 seatbelts to use in the back.

Re: Help my Power Mirror Shakes

yeah for now I just swapped out seats, put a 5 point harness unit in the center vs her booster on the passenger rear, actually its safer this way too, just sorta annoying as she kicks me in the shoulder all the time (being in the center and i having my seat back cuz im tall) hehe.

I had the same problem....took a little time and gentle discipline. Also had to fold up the center armrest and let her kick that instead for awhile.
