how to modify 82 c10 to electric fuel pump so that it stops with engine
I have an 82 c10 and I am putting an electric fuel pump on it because i replaced the engine with a late model block and carb. I need to know how the newer models are wired so that the fuel pump stops (not only when the switch is off) when the engine stops in case of an accident so that fuel will not pump without the engine running.
Thanks for the help |

Re: how to modify 82 c10 to electric fuel pump so that it stops with engine
Ok, here goes. Gm uses a fuel pump relay. The relay is controlled by the ECM or PCM depending upon year. If the engine is not running but the key is on the pump will not run unless you turn the key off and on and it will only run for a few seconds.
Ford on the other hand also uses a crash switch, thanks to the problems with the Pinto. And there you have it. You don't have a ECM or a PCM from the sounds of it. I also don't really want to tell you how to do it due to the liability issue. Good Luck and hope this helps. |

Re: how to modify 82 c10 to electric fuel pump so that it stops with engine
I'd go to NAPA or autozone and ask for a little help. I bought an electric fuel pump for my '82 C-30 with a 6.2 and the guys at Autozone were a big help in helping me. The aftermarket pumps usually have a regulator built in and all you will really need I expect is an electric source that is operated by the key. If you can't use a trouble light to find the electric source, then I suspect that you need to put the tools down and step away from the car!
