Red face 2000 Honda Civic

Please help - if there is anyone out there that knows why my car won't pass smog. The shop is telling me that the car won't pass because of my monitors are not ready?? They said that because the battery was disconnected it wiped out the computer so it has to go through the drive cycle whatever that is before the monitors will register on the computer. What is the drive cycle? If anyone can tell me what that is I would really appreciate it.
