All you have to do, is tell them the VIN number, and they can check to see if it was factory equipped with the keyless entry. If it does, then you can buy the remote from them, and they usually program it for free, since you bought the remote from them.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

Might first try a resynro. process. Stand close to vehicle and press and hold unlock and lock buttons for seven seconds. Door locks should cycle. If not you need to reprogram. Procedure from service manual for a 97: Book 1 section 9K4

Use a jumper wire to provide a path from the RKE programming circuit (pin 8) to ground (pin 4) on the data link connector (DLC). The remote control door lock receiver will respond by locking, then unlocking all of the doors and unlatching the rear window to indicate that the receiver is in the programming mode.
With the circuit remaining grounded, press any button on the first transmitter to be reprogrammed. This will store the access code for the transmitter and the receiver will respond by locking, then unlocking all the doors etc.
Press any button on the second transmitter if used.
Remove the jumper.
Test the transmitters.

The DLC is under the dash on left side of steering column. Pin 4 is a ground with black wire from back side. Pin 8 is the RKE circuit with black wire/white stripe.

This is from the factory manual but for sure, use at own risk.

Re: have a question about keyless entry..

Yep, that's it. It's numbered but hard to see the numbers, really small and on the rear near the wires.
