Power Locks and Windows Not Working
Hi,
I took my car to the mechanic's today to get my oxygen sensors replaced. He replaced them, but now I have a new problem. The power locks don't work anymore. That lock switch on the driver and passenger side don't work anymore. I have to lock/unlock each of the four doors manually. It's as if the car no longer has power locks. The power windows only partially work now. All 4 windows can be opened/closed using the corresponding controls on each door, but the panel for the driver-side, which controls all 4 windows, well, only the two switches (driver side and passenger behind the driver side) work. The other two do not. I think this was caused by something my mechanic did in the process of changing the o2 sensors. Anybody wanna help me out? The car sucks ass now. |

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
Dang, so nobody has ever had this happen to them before? Nobody is even replying with at least a, "I don't know how I would fix that, sorry buddy." Sadness.

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
Check your fuses under the dash for your windows, and check the connections at you control module on your driver side, possibly one of them is the prob.

If you search this site, you'll find various references to the Multiplex System. As near as I can tell, this is a fancy term for a reduced wire wiring harness that uses some form of communication protocol to pass on/off/up/down information to various features of the car.
If you reset this, it should solve your problem (it did mine) . Procedure: With the car OFF, set the intermittent wiper to it's mid-setting. Turn the key ON/OFF/ON. This resets the multiplex system. The windows immediately worked and when I went OFF/ON again, the locks came back. Thanks for the feedback. My power locks and windows did start working again out of the blue one afternoon when I was going home from school. I found out what the problem was, though--or so I think. The right headlight for my car isn't water tight, so everytime I wash the car, water gets inside and takes months to evaporate back out. When it gets hot, the water begins to evaporate but with no opening (or one big enough to make a difference) the vapors just got into every crevice inside the apparatus. This was causing my right turn light bulb to not blink until the water was all gone. I guess after a few days, enough water had evaporated out that the wires were working again and so the power locks and windows worked, too. Strange how water causing the right turn bulb not to work caused my power locks and windows to malfunction, as well. I've "fixed" the problem with the water, though. I poked a small hole into the right headlight to allow water vapors to escape. So now the bulb blinks just fine. Strange.

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
It's great you have a solution!
One thing that many of these cases seem to have in common is water. It was very wet here when my locks went down. Later the next week, my windows ceased to work. |

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
isn't that called short circuit, like the water cause a short circuit in the system, then it got reset after it dried...dunno.

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
You guys are great! The reset instruction did work on my 98 Accord LX. I have accidentally shorted my battery and created the same problem. Thank you!

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
The wiper setting worked...go figure. Thanks.
However, I have had an intermittent lock on driver side rear door for a while. Either works, doesn't or rear slow to actuate. Any suggestions? |

Re: Power Locks and Windows Not Working
The hole in the light is simple short term solution, however you neec to seal it properly....or you will have a larger problem later, becasue when it rains water will find it's way in the hole. My advice is take out the housing and run some sealant along the edges and replace any washers around the light bulb abnd then reseal the hole you created.
