Timing belt question for you experts...

Lets say you are driving and your toming belt brakes... lets just say you dont have a timing chain period.... can the car still be driven? The engine will just have to work a lot harder and will burn way to much fuel... but yet it can still be driven...

it al depends if you have an interference engine. as meaning if the belt breaks it does not cause the pistons to run into the valves and bending the valves. now in integra's they are interference engines. so if our belt breaks we are f*cked. now in my freinds subaru legacy, his belt broke on him a month ago. since it is a non-interference engine he just replaced the belt and was on his way. point really is, DO NOT LET YOUR BELT BREAK. replace it as scheduled.

your valves will not open --> no air flow into or out of the engine --> no combustions will be possible --> engine will not run.

haha shut up noob!! thats because integra engines suck... so they dont deserve to have an interference engine. But obviously cars can run without timing chains, just the cars that are worth protecting that is... examples are... Camaros, 240s and stangs...

well, 240's have chains, not belts. its very unlikely your chain will break, it rarely ever happens. but if your chain breaks, you will be fucked, just like everyone else. teg's have belts, and they can break every 60k if they wanted, and well be fucked as well.

Re: Timing belt question for you experts...

No motor will run without a timming chain or belt. The timming chain/belt turns the camshaft/s and thus opens and closes the valves which lets air in and exhaust out of the cylinder. Also Ignition timming in most cars is taken off the intake camshaft, so if the belt/chain were to break then no spark at the plugs.
Botom line no timming belt/chain no running motor!
