That usually happens when the reader is dirty. Not quite sure how to clean it though, just have seen the problem before.

Re: Umm Side Topic...
If it's an older PS2 then it's a common problem. I have about 4 or 5 games that I bought and was only able to play once and now they're worthless. But try and clean it out first, take a alcohol pad or q-tip with alcohol to it and wipe the lens. If nothing else works, then do a search for "ps2 read disk error" and you'll find instructions how to fix it (meaning you'll have to take apart you PS2 and void the warentee). If you can't find the instructions PM me and I'll find it for you. But it should be done as a last resort (the read error fix I mean).

Re: Umm Side Topic...
Nope you have the ever too common disc read error. I had the same problem along with millions of other people. Call Sony and tell them you have the disc read error and they should fix for you for free but you still have to pay to ship it to them. After I got it back it read discs but slowly. For example I would be playing Vice city and would driving around and the game would pause because it couldn't draw the area fast enough. So it read the disc but not fast enough so I just bought a new one and it plays San Andreas wonderfully.

Re: Umm Side Topic...
Buy a new one. Put the old game system in the box along with the new wires and joysticks and take it right back for a full refund. This is best done at Walmart. The customer service is always busy, and wont take the time to look at the numbers. Make sure you keep all the new stuff in the box except the actual PS2. That way everything still looks new. I did it with a pioneer CD player when I was in high school. My sister does it with everything so I know it still works. This may be to dishonest for you, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
