Re: what is the best EXHAUST

I would go with greddy...reliable,doesn't sound ricey, and puts down some pretty good power numbers. Or....you could spend a lot less getting a quality muffler and getting custom piping. I got 2.5 inch custom piping made at a muffler shop for 85 dollars and ordered an ANSA axle-back muffler. It doesn't sound like any other car on the street. By the way ANSA makes exhausts for ferrari's.

Re: what is the best EXHAUST

The one I have heard the most good things about is the Greddy EVO II exhaust. Also they have a Street Performance line too. You can't go wrong with Greddy. Go to Greddy.com and check them out.

Re: what is the best EXHAUST

Some food for thought.

All aftermarket exhausts will put out the same power gains, give or take a point. As long as the piping is mandrel bent. Things to consider when choosing: Looks, sound, quality of product, and price.

If money is an issue, I would buy a muffler and have a shop custom make a pipe. If money isn't an issue, get a aftermarket cat back. If you go with a catback, decide on looks, sound, and quality of product. It will be hard to do this on the internet. Just shop at each web site and take a look at each one. The ask people about their experience with each. I have Greddy's Evo II and love it. It cost alot, but I want quality first. You can get the Evo1 fot a little less. The only difference between the two is full stainless steel piping.

Also, I backed up too close to a curb and hit my exhaust tip on the side walk pretty hard. Not a scratch. In fact, it broke a piece of the cement off. I can vouch for Greddy's durability.

It has a low growl. It's not that loud, but will growl deeply when rpm's rise. I'll dig up a picture of it.

If you have custom piping done, look for a muffler shop that has a manderl bender. Not all muffler shops have a manderl bender. If they don't they will use crushed bends instead. These are not as good for airflow at all, you want madrel bends.

Besides possibly costing less (varies by area, etc), the other benifit of custom piping is you can have them build the exhaust to tune the exhaust note to your liking.

I have an apexi n1 on my 97 ls. I was carjacked at gun point in december of last year. The guy led police on a high speed chase for 30 miles he did 8000 dollars in damage to the body. The police laid down spike strips and blew out both right side tires. The exhaust dragged on the ground for about 6miles before he stopped( I watched the chase on tv) anyways insurance fixed the car, but i did't replace the exhaust. I don't notice any power loss, there are no leaks and aside from some scratches the exhaust is fine. I love my apexi exhaust and I plan to buy a replacement soon, only because of the cosmetics.

Re: what is the best EXHAUST

That is a badass story 97integrals. Sucks you had to deal with it though.

Anyone have experience with the Tanabe race medallion pipe?
How does it sound? just curious.
