ok i need some info

ok i kno quite a bit about cars but i cant tell the difference between engine codes, i mean this got brought to my attention wen i was looking at a 240sx on cardomain and this guy asked wat mod he should do next and one of them was an engine swap. i didnt kno wat that engine was, maybe u guys could help me out, id like to kno wat engine codes mean wat
