Auxiliary power fuse #22 Aurora 2001

With the problem with my RPM needle running into the red for no reason and engine light coming on, I brought it to the dealer and they replaced the auxiliary power fuse since it was burnt out. The guy says he wants to start with the simple fixes before having to take the engine apart. However he had no idea what the fuse was for. Can this be the cause of engine light and tachometer going heywire?

The check engine light comes on for a reason...Have a tech put a scanner on it to see what the info computer reads. Go from there.

I would go to a dealer that knew more about the car instead of one that "had no idea what the fuse was for".
It might be necessary to replace the fuse - but they should be able to tell you why !

I know what you guys are saying. The reason I'm going to this place is because where I bought the car that is where they sent me and they are paying for the repair.

He put my car on the computer and it did not give him any reading. So he decided to try where it would be more simple first and then proceed from there. But you are right I am concerned that that he was not able to get a reading from the computer.

Well I listened to you guys and I called back where I bought the car and told them I was not happy with the service I got at the garage. The guy was nice and all that, but he had no documentation on the car nor was he able to hook up properly to do a diagnostic. They referred me to another garage. Hope they can find the problem. Stay tuned.

It's probably not a good idea to trust an Aurora to someone who knows nothing about them. It would be cheaper in the long run to find an Oldsmobile dealer or a Cadillac dealer - someone who knows a Northstar when they see one.

Got my car back from the garage. They found the problem to be a sensor malfunction. Everything seems to be working now. Will let you know if it breaks down again.
