Camry Check Engine P0440

Hi,

I recently had the dealer work on my valve seal replacement. After that I got a check engine light within a month, which now reads the code:
P0440 - EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction

Any ideas on what and where to look for. I can take it back to the dealer, if this is due to the work they have done with warranty. But have to make sure it is related, else they would charge me again for diagnosis.

thanks

1st, check your gas tank cap to see if it's on tight and that it's in good shape. (Save me further typing)

Thanks, that did help. It was a loose gas cap. You saved me $120 dollars that the Toyota dealer was going to charge me.

thx.

This seems to be a common issue on the Camry's.

Why can't Toyota educate the owners, rather then having them get ripped off by the dealers.

I think Toyota is trying to make their dealers shops take advantage of the naive owners.

thx

Actually, the "Check Engine" light would go off once you tighten the cap when you fill up next time. It wouldn't be an issue after that. You were just sensitive to this since you had previous problems and were watching the light.

Re: Camry Check Engine P0440

It is not being sensitive to the work done before, but am sensitive to being ripped off by the dealers. They are sharks, looking for an opportunity to take you for a ride.

Tell me, how many feel think they are honest and sincere. The guys demanded that I pay $1300 for a simple value seal replacement and opened up my damn car up and black mailed me saying that if I don't get the vehicle fixed, I still have to pay them $1300 dollars for putting it back together.

Why would they have to pull apart the whole car to diagnose the problem, while their estimate for diagnosos was only $120.

I had no choice to negotiate the repiar for $1000 dollar and on top of this, when I went to them for this problem, they were not even sensitive to what they have done, and demanded an additional $120. All I wanted for them is to check of the problem is related to what they have done.

Report them to consumer protection. Some tv programs like W5 make an example of them on TV. Blackmail them too...
