Exclamation REV limiter??? reliable?? HELp

Hello, i just purchased a malibu and discovered the rev limiter is at 4000.
Redline starts at 50somthing?
Thats stupid.
Anyways, Is there any performance or reliability in this car, im not planning on tricking it out like my celica. I just want a quick everyday car, possible sleeper. I wanna know now becuase i have some wheels in mind... I wanna know if this cars worth it or anything else i should know.
I already know about the intake gasket and mines been changed... I had to change the fuel pump the next day i bought it cuz the fuel sending unit was bad and was messin up my gauges.
Well,
THanKs!!

Re: REV limiter??? reliable?? HELp

Hey, i just found this site,
http://www.new-cars.com/2002/chevrol...ns.html#engine

it says max engine speed like 6000rpms. MINE GOES TO 4000!!
Whats up with that!!
Look at the HP rpms... mine wont go over 4000. Does anyone have an explaination?
THANKs!

Re: REV limiter??? reliable?? HELp

when the car isnt moving it only goes to 4000 t protect the engine but when u drive it it drives normal

put it on drive and floor it it should redline at about 5700rpm the rev limiter is their to protect the ngine just incase you get rev happy when the car is sttill

Re: REV limiter??? reliable?? HELp

hey thanks, oh by the way, its not from a dealer.
But damn, thats wierd, lol, dual stage rev limiter..??
Anyways, im used to the japs reving so high.
So besides the intake gasket, mines already replaced, and the fuel sender unit that went bad, i cant see anything else wrong that is common ( blower relay, turn signals, ) YET!
So is it a keeper for a quick daily car?
im getting konig trouble wheels for it 18's so i wanna protect my investment (the wheels)!
Worth it or sell it?

I thas the rev limiter whenever it is in park or neutral to protect the motor. That is a quick way to blow a motor is to rev it high with no load (being in gear) This is called free spinning, the motor is revving high but has no load on it (weight of car, wind resistance etc) the internal moving arts are loose and can fly apart, thats why GM has this on their motors.
