humming noise in rear end?

Ive got this humming noise coming from my rear end, I'm pretty sure its the fuel pump, because when I try and give it throttle of any kind it dies.
But it will run and idle.

Any other ideas

Re: humming noise in rear end?

My guess is that you have a clogged fuel filter. It is the cheapest thing you can change in the troubleshooting process and its a maintenance item also. Do it yourself. It is located just forward of the fuel tank. Just don't have anything nearby that can cause a spark (shop light, cigarette, etc.). I have a '00 Savana that wouldn't run above idle. Fuel filter fixed it.

ya the pump still seems to be running, but it seems to be un primed or struggling. And this problem happend over night, could it still be the filter.

Btw, this is a 94 safri.

Yup, my filter only had 25K miles on it since last replacement when it plugged up. Like I said, this is an item that you would replace regularly just like your air filter. Hearing a hum from the rear is a good sign. At least you know the pump is running. Other possibilities could be a plugged pickup screen on the fuel pump in the tank (in addition to crud in the fuel) or bad fuel pressure regulator. Go with the cheapest and easiest first, the filter.

Re: humming noise in rear end?

ok so what you are saying is.....check the filter, then see how it runs, then if still rough, check the screen on the pump.

Where is the filter located on the 94 safari
