F-350 vibrations at idle
I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I have a 2001 F-350 7.3 PS. While sitting at idle I can feel a vibration so intense that I can feel it in the seat, on the floor and on the steering wheel. It seems to go away as I gain speed, at about 30 mph it's totally gone (unless I'm driving on gravel). Now I feel it worse when in 4 wheel drive and also when I'm driving on gravel roads, usually bumpy roads. What's throwing me is that it is really bad at idle, I've had a mechanic look at it but couldn't find anything wrong. It seems to be getting progressively worse and I need to find out what the heck is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm i'm thinking something wrong with the vibration fighting engine mounts that the trucks have... the problem is i don't know if they had that technology in the trucks in 2001.
I'd start with that if there's nothing wrong with your engine itself... hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply but the mechanic who looked at it said the engine mounts were fine, and the engine itself were fine as well. Thanks again though.

Re: F-350 vibrations at idle
Where is the HVAC selector when this happens?

I guess I never really noticed, you think that may have something to do with it? Also, when I am driving on gravel road, it sometimes comes in "waves", if that makes any sense. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't. Now that I think about it, when I am sitting at idle and turn the steering wheel very slightly (from 12:00 to 11:00) there is a vibration (kind of like a pulse) that resonates down through the truck that can be felt really bad in the seat.

Re: F-350 vibrations at idle
The steering sounds like a resonance in the P/S system. Remove the serpantine belt and start the truck, I'll bet all your vibrations are gone.
Oh, remove it, don't just slip it off the tensioner. The A/C compressor is "active" at all times except when the selector is: off or heat (maybe vent). |

Thanks for the advise modmech, but is taking the serpentine belt off and starting it a safe to do?

Re: F-350 vibrations at idle
Yes, as long as you don't run it for longer than a few minutes, or drive it, it will cause absolutely no problem.

I was looking at a 97 powerstroke that had some problems with the flywheel and it had a bad shake at idle. I think it had something to do with the two peice flywheel but I'm not 100% sure on that. Just a thought.
