I switched over to synthetic oil in Sept. at 145,000 & now I'm noticing oil marks on the bottom of my oil pan! The oil seems to be coming from the top section of the oil pan (near the bolts) & I'm positive that it is not the drain plug. This began to show after 1,000 miles of running synthetics & it does not leak enough to leave marks on the ground! Also, my oil filter has been leaking minor oil ever since I made the change, but I may have tighten it too much! The oil filter leak also leaves no marks on the ground!

It is fairly common for synthetics to seep in a hi milage engine. If you replace the gaskets the problem will stop. Synthetics have a thinner base and find every weak point to make an exit. If you have a "tight" engine it is economicle to use these oils, If you have a leaker, It`s a total waste. If all is cool, You will see a MPG increase and a cooler running engine. I use synthetics in my streetrods and hotrods. I swear by the stuff. Lucas and Red Line makes excellent differntial gear lube in synthetics. More MPG to be had here.

Re: Synthetic Oil Starting to Leak
I think I'll continue to use synthetics because I definitely have noticed the difference! Besides, the oil is not leaking to to the point where I need to frequently add fluid. I will look into have my gasket replaced to the pan. Thanks for the input!
