Unhappy My God, do I just junk it now?

Well, not sure if there's anything that can be done for my little car now, but here it goes. Just spent 600 dollars to get my car fixed, not only did they not fix it, but today I started it up and drove around my parking lot, it started jumping, then I noticed that the dashboard controls were going crazy!! Eventually they just stopped working altogether and I was just able to park it in time before it stopped running. The car is still overheating (first problem I had) and it shows that there is no battery power left even though I just had a jump prior to driving it. This is a 93 Ford probe 4 cylinder with 124.000 miles. Is this something that will cost more to repair than the car is worth? I just had new belts new alternator radiator flushed out, new coolant put in, gosh I think some more stuff but I can't even think right now. Anyway, if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know!!!
Thanks
Tess in NC

i'd say get a new battery since you already have a new alternator. alternator will act screwy if battery is bad. about your overheating...check the thermostat and also check and make sure the water pump is not going bad. check all hoses and condition of coolant.

Re: My God, do I just junk it now?

There was a recall for Probes because of problems with the electrical connector on the fuel pump. Road salt (the stuff that the state puts on the road to melt ice) can cause electrolytic corrosion in the connector, shorting the fuel pump to ground. The recall put in a jumper wiring harness with a fuse that was supposed to blow if you got the problem. I don't have the jumper, so I'm not sure how it works. It sounds like you have the short and not the recall jumper kit. The fuel pump is supposed to run continuously, so it'll discharge the battery really fast. The car will skip because of low fuel pressure, then it won't start at all. There's a relay (REALLY expensive, over $100 for a simple $0.25 relay) in the engine compartment fuse box. Mine has a green cover, and it's the only green one. You can pull this relay (remeber that it has latches on the sides) and check the voltage to ground to the fuel pump there with the key in the "On" position. You should have 12 volts. If you don't you probably have the problem, or the car isn't making 12 volts. Fixing this means replacing the fuel pump. The fuel pump is around $212, and it's located above the fuel tank, so it's a real bear to get at.

Re: My God, do I just junk it now?

Same thing happened to my 94se, I got a new Battery and every thing worked fine again. If it is running bad after that and over heating your timing belt could have jumped and be off this also happened to me once I got the car timed again everything was O.k. Until my AC pump froze up
