Waterpump Causing Vibration ?
Hi,
On my 85 Caprice with the 305 engine, my waterpump has a pretty worn out bearing. I haven't replaced it yet, for various reasons. Lately I've noticed a vibration in the accelerator pedal and steering wheel on acceleration sometimes. If I rev the engine in neutral, I get a rough vibration too. My question is : Could the vibration be due to the waterpump bearing going out? Thanks

Anything is possible, but it's probably not the water pump causing the vibration.
Check your power steering fluid level/condition (make sure you have enough and that it's not full of dirt/metal). Other sources of vibrations are misfires and vacuum hose leaks. Is it making noise?

It's not making any noise associated with the vibration, no.

Dag!
Have a look at the crank dampener. It's made of rubber/metal. If the rubber separates, it's not doing its job anymore. It would explain why it vibrates at idle, moving or not.

Life is good. I put in a new waterpump and the vibration went away !
  Took me 7 hours, but I enjoyed every minute.
