Waterpump Causing Vibration ?
Hi,
On my 85 Caprice with the 305 engine, my waterpump has a pretty worn out bearing. I haven't replaced it yet, for various reasons. Lately I've noticed a vibration in the accelerator pedal and steering wheel on acceleration sometimes. If I rev the engine in neutral, I get a rough vibration too. My question is : Could the vibration be due to the waterpump bearing going out? Thanks |

Re: Waterpump Causing Vibration ?
Anything is possible, but it's probably not the water pump causing the vibration.
Check your power steering fluid level/condition (make sure you have enough and that it's not full of dirt/metal). Other sources of vibrations are misfires and vacuum hose leaks. Is it making noise? |

It's not making any noise associated with the vibration, no.

Re: Waterpump Causing Vibration ?
Dag!
Have a look at the crank dampener. It's made of rubber/metal. If the rubber separates, it's not doing its job anymore. It would explain why it vibrates at idle, moving or not. |

Life is good. I put in a new waterpump and the vibration went away !
Took me 7 hours, but I enjoyed every minute.
