Re: Re: Re: sti vr. g35 coupe
omg and sti accelerating in 6th is a great feeling, its sounds and feel like a plane taking off, the g-force pushes and keeps you in the seat... its freaking amazing.. i want a evo or sti..
btw last night i was hanging with the evo8 and sti we were in both car.. the sti is way more responsive at low end compared to the evo8.. that extra torque really helps.. i wonder what a mr evos feels like tho... man... 1

Anyways I think the STI is faster then the G35C and 350Z from a roll but it should be really close and not a blow out. It dosnt make sence though. I think its like TatII said, either the EVO and STI are underated or the G35 and 350Z are overated.

Sti
I have not raced an STI, but I drove one, very nice power delivery. I have raced a highly modded WRX as well as a 2004 E46 M3 and I would have to say that the M3 would take the STI from a roll. I have also raced an EVO with many mods, it should have beat me but the guy was a real shitty driver, almost to disgraceful. Do not have a good idea on how that one should run.
Fun part about everything is that they lost to a Grand Prix 4 door, LOL! That is why I love this car, daily driver and cranks pretty well, modded a bit! [IMG] |

Re: sti vr. g35 coupe
I truly hope that those people claiming the G35 Coupe or 350Z could hang with an STi or E46 M3 (from a roll or dig) are joking. I have beaten a 350Z by a car length to 90mph and a G35 Coupe by about 3 car lengths to about 115mph. All of this while I was bone stock. On the other hand, I could barely hang with a stock STi from a 40mph-110mph roll when I had stage 1. With stage 1 and a 3" exhaust I was about even when I played around with an E46 M3 convertible on the freeway. Now that I have stage 2 and my 3" exhaust I'm slightly quicker than an STi or E46 M3 coupe on the freeway.
Against a 350Z with at least some exhaust work on Saturday night... http://srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89442 The 350Z and G35 Coupe are worlds away from the STi and E46 M3. They might be able to hold their own on the twisties, but they don't have nearly the same type of straight line accleration. They can't touch the low-end torque of the STi and they can't compete with the free revving straight 6 of the E46 M3. The 350Z and G35 Coupe are better suited for the WRX, R32, or Mustang GT.

Re: sti vr. g35 coupe
Will someone give me some et's on the sti, G35, 350? I find alot of these stories hard to believe, I can't hardly get anyone of those cars to race me to gauge how fast they are. I will tell you this, I think some of you may be confusing the Z06 with a regular C5. The fastest et that I have seen for the Z06, stock, was 11.97, that is around the ballpark of what I was running with just the mods in my sig. I did play with a 350Z and a Z06 on the highway a while back and from 60 and up, the 350 is a turd(no offense) compared to a Z06. I have yet to race one off the line though.

Most of the runs I've had have been against people I knew just for shits and giggles. I like these forums but I wouldn't consider myself a street racer. I'm more of a fan.The STi I raced belongs to a friend in Southern California. We've raced on two seperate occasions. Racing evenly matched cars is a helluva better way to gauge a baseline in my opinion than anything a dyno shop could hand you on a piece of paper. When I had stage 1 and he had his cat-back exhaust that's what we were...pretty even. Hopefully I'll get another chance to run him in December when I go down to San Diego. My mods are in my signature. His only power adders are Ecutek stage 1 @ 91 octane and a full 3" turbo-back exhaust. I can't emphasize enough how much quicker an STi or new M3 is, either off the line or from a roll, than a 350Z or G35 Coupe. The STi has oodles of low end torque. It's amazing. That car hops up like there's a jet in its ass when you get to about 2,500-3,000 RPMs. I've never driven one of the newer M3's, but judging by how hard the (much heavier than a coupe) convertible version I played with on the freeway pulled, I'd wager that the E46 M3 is the quickest of the bunch from a roll. It's also very high revving and on the freeway that's an amazing asset. You'll need some serious bolt-ons or FI before a 350Z or G35 Coupe can hang with those big boys. It's a cult car IMHO. It may have the Z badge but it's a far cry from the TT 300ZX of yester-year. It handles well and looks good doing it but, in it's price range, there are far better cars for the money...Mach 1 Mustang, SVT Cobra Mustang, Evo 8, STi, R32 and maybe even the RX-8 to a degree. I don't believe Nissan is very serious about injecting REAL performance into the USDM. The 350Z and G35 Coupe may be quicker than 95% of the cars on the road, but they are both terrible platforms in terms of mod friendlyness. For all intents and purposes, they are maxed out from the factory. I dunno about spending $30k+ for a 14 second 2 door. I think most are buying the nameplate. |

Re: sti vr. g35 coupe
Thanks Steiner, very informative, and I agree with you about alot of that...I think it's safe to say that the Cobra would be your best bet, and I'm not a Mustang guy.

Re: sti vr. g35 coupe
Well, I dont know to much about the STis and what not, but what I can speak for are the BMWs.
From my understanding, and visual expierience, a 350Z has problems holding with a 330ci or 330i with the sports package. So, if what you are syaing is true that a G35 is slower than a 350Z, than the G35 will have an even harder time working with a 330ci or 330i. An ///M3 (E46), would be a king of the bunch we're talking about. I believe I read somewhere that the BMW SMG is faster than Ferrari's. A good driver with the SMG can put a ///M3 into the mid to low 13s. Nice stuff. From a roll, I dont think (just mho) an STi will be anywhere near an ///M3. And based on a test drive, I think the ///M3 may even beat the STi in the QM, becuase with the launch control, that thing slams you back you go from the dig.
