I have a 92 accord ex, and my friend kyle has a regular 97 Cavalier. He says his car is fast but I think my car is faster. By the way he has a regular cavlalier not the z24.Although he thinks it is!! If that makes a difference. I have an automatic with sport shift and the cavy is a five speed. If me and him raced who would win ?????

I believe yours is a 140 HP auto engine, while his is a 150 HP manual engine. Depending on who gets the jump, and if he shifts better, he should win by the numbers. I'm not positive, but I guess if he is kind of new to driving, you could probably take him. Race him and find out. If he starts making fun of you, get an intake and a catback exhaust, some headers, and leave him in the dust.

Re: 92 4 dr. Accord Ex vs. 97 2dr. Cavalier
ok i had a 98 cavalier NON Z24 and it was 5-spd. It was like 115 hp at the flywheel, lol, so i think that's around 95 hp to the wheels. So, if you have vtec, you are most likely going to beat him. He might get you off the line if he knows how to launch, but besides that it's all you.

Re: 92 4 dr. Accord Ex vs. 97 2dr. Cavalier
Your accord has 130hp-140hp, it runs between 17-17.5 in the quarter. And IMHO the sport shift is absolutely worthless. Please don't take offense from that, but with my 90 accord, I did quite a few runs with the sport shift on and off, and I never noticed a difference. In theory it is supposed to prolong the shift a bit longer and get the rpms higher, but I really didn't notice a difference.
I honestly have no idea about the Cav, but he will have more control with a manual. I think it will come down to a drivers race.

yea the sports doesn't do anything but waste gas :-( but the green light on the dash always seems to give me a little satisfaction.

Okay with a 2 second google search
http://www.epinions.com/compare.html...ay_~full_specs The 97 NON Z24 cav. has 120HP and 130ft-lbs Torque... you have http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...ex.cfm/id/2047 140HP and 142ft-lbs of torque you weigh in at 2738 for the coupe or 2733 for the sedan he is 2617 for the coupe and 2676 for the sedan by the numbers you will likely win even in an AT...a good way to eliminate driver ability is to race in your own cars and then switch and race again in each others car. NOTE: if it is the Z24 he's got you with 150HP and 150ft-lbs torque and lighter curb weight
