Re: Is the rumor true?
I say you make money by selling it on Ebay. Let me buy them instead of crushing them. Luckily, here it's only a reckless driving ticket. You don't even go to jail for it.

Re: Is the rumor true?
Thee is a thread called "Street Racers R.I.P" I believe, one of the posters had a link to a site with dozens of articles about Street Racing accidents where the driver, passenger, bystander, or other driver not involved was hurt or killed. I read every one last week and what stuck out was a majority of the articles was from California, and then like I said when I started this thread, my wife heard about it on the Radio. Being from the eastern end of the US I just had to see if it was a rumor or not and apparantly it is not judging from what I have read so far. Thing is, California starting something usually has a ripple effect to the rest of the states and they will in time jump on the bandwagon also.
For California people now it seems, the question is: With all the big bucks that people spend on their rides to go fast, is it really worth the real possibility of loosing your ride forever just for that high speed adrenaline rush when driving on a public road? |

Re: Is the rumor true?
Wouldn't a better solution be to have the state build drag strips and tracks? I myself would not race on the streets that way, but the closest track is like an hour away from my house, costs like$50, and most of the races are on Saturday, and I can't race on Saturdays. Instead, I just race in residential 25 mph zones. Never got caught yet...

Where I am they suspend your license for anywhere from 6 months up, depending on how many points you have on your license, and if you're a repeat offender... That and a hefty ticket.

Here is a true example, There used to be a track 100 miles from me called Drag City and if anybody here knew of this place and anything I said is incorrect please correct me as it has been a few years since I been there and it was only once, but the jest of it is still the same. The gates opened at 4:00PM but NOBODY was allowed to start their cars unless they were mufflered until 6:00PM because of a local noise ordinance, then you had 2 hours for time trials where you may be lucky to get 2 runs if the car count is large but 2 rounds was the limit and was controlled by a punch ticket you received at the gate, and then races start at 8:00PM. If the car count was really high then they would get 2 or 3 maybe 4 rounds in for eliminations. Then they had to shutdown eliminations even if it was in the middle of a round because that very same ordinance prohibited any noise after 11:00PM at night so the prize money was split among any racer that wasn't eliminated with the amount depending on what round you were in when the races were shutdown. Needless to say the track gave up and closed because the majority of the time they couldn't put on a full show. |
