Door lock number pad reset

I just purchased a used 2002 Explorer XLT and there was no owners manual and I do not know the number for the door lock key pad and I have no idea how to reset the number or change it. Can someone tell me how to do this. Thanks

Re: Door lock number pad reset

First, you need to obtain the factory keypad code. This should help:
http://s88853021.onlinehome.us/explorer/keypadcode.html

You cannot change/reset the factory code but can program your own personal codes if you have the factory code...here's how to do it:

1. Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when pressed).

2. Press the 1/2 button within 5 seconds of Step 1

3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Enter each digit within 5 seconds of the previous one.

The manual states: Do not set a code that includs three of the same number or presents them in sequential order; these types of codes are easier to figure out.

Your personal code does not replace the factory code. You can use either to unlock the vehicle. If a second personal code is entered, the module will erase the first personal code in favor of the new code.

To exit, press 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously or allow more than 5 seconds to elapse since a button press occured and the 5 digit keycode will be programmed.

Re: Door lock number pad reset

Does anyone know if finding the default factory code applies to a 97 Explorer?

Hey I have a 98 explorer with a code-pad, if that is what everyone is talking about. I went to a ford dealership and the guy did it for me for free. In my 98 the code number is in the back left compartment thing that you open up to get your lug nut tool. Once you open it up there is a grey box in the foward part of the compartment with wires connecting to it. On the right side []<-- There is a white sticker that has your factory code along with many other numbers and such on it. It sucks trying to see it because the plastic siding is in the way. It will be 4 bold numbers and you will need a flashlight probally and you might have to figure out how to take the grey box out depending on if you can flex the plastic siding out far enough for you to glance at the numbers. Once you have the 4 numbers you need to add a 1 (to unlock the drivers door) and a 3 (to unlock all the rest). (This 1 and 3 thing works for me but i'm not sure if it works for everyone, but just try it.) So it should be like this: Get your 4 numbers and add the number 1 and the number 3, in that order, to the end to make 6 numbers total. - ####13 - This is your code.
