spoiler fine scratches

i have a 2001 saturnsc2. on the surface of the rear spoiler, you see very fine scratches or haze running the length of the spoiler. it looks like the fine scratches you would get through a carwash, but this car was NEVER even close to a carwash. it might even be microscopic cracks in the paint/clearcoat. also seen this on other similiar cars. you only see this when the sun shines on the spoiler at a certain angle. waxing/sealing the surface improves the appearance drastically, but as the seal wears off, you see them more easily, but only when the sun's out. it's hard to see under cloudy conditions. is there a problem with the paint saturn uses on the spoiler? what can be done about this? this car has only 15.000 miles on it, & is mostly garaged & always kept clean/sealed with liquid glass.........

I've seen this often on the saturns! Just out of curiousity, how is the rest of the paint on the car! I seem to think the paint used on the spolier would be the same on the car?

It could well be a case of clearcoat failure. Not Sure. I have seen it before as I said, but never had a saturn in my hands to try and correct the problem!

You could try a mild polish or compound and see if you can polish them out!

Maybe try some Meguiar's #9 in their pro line,

or from the Meguiar's Retail Line, you could try some ScratchX to remove them??? (Sorry, can't get the image to load???)


Or if you can find some 3M Perfect It II Fine Cut Rubbing Compound and be gentle, that might help as well!

If it is clearcoat failure, then a shop will have to fix it, unless you know how? Or maybe try a detail shop and have them try the high speed rotary on the spoiler!

p.s. All the products I mentioned can be bought in smaller bottles!

Just my . the scratches could actually be cracks in the paint because the spoiler is most likely plastic of some sort and when plastic flexes, you can get cracks in the paint

Although, I do tend think it may be the clearcoat that is cracking!

Hence why I was asking how the rest of the car is, as it has many plastic panels, and I believe the paint on the car would be the same on the spoiler???

But..yeah...it could be the paint as well...Hmmmm!

Yeah paint on the car should be the same as the spoiler. I was just throwing other ideas out there. I noticed that you own your own detailing shop though so you know much more about the subject than me.

well the factory probibly did not apply any kind of flexible primer under the paint and as the spoiler gets hot and cold with the weather it expands and contracts...this could be the cause of your paint cracking...if thats what it even is.
