ok i'm still a newb so plz forgive me if this is a stupid question. I plan to put a knight supercharger on my newly aquired 94 3kgt. would i still be able to put on the over bore (3.1L) high compression pistions i looked at on www.3sxperformance.com with the supercharger pushing 5 1/2 psi of boost down my beast's throat?

should i even go with the knight supercharger: both good and bad have been said about it. if not the knight, is there anything else offered for a dohc, aside from a tt conversion that i don't want to do?

uve heard nothing but bad things about the knight, wait a couple months and the RIPP one will be out.

ive been told not to supercharge high compression pistons. i would just get low compression forged pistons, then supercharge it and raise the psi. I have a 94 base, and im gonna rebuild mine too, thinking about boring it out and just throwing 11:1 or 12:1 pistons on it. just cursious on the gains i will get

high compression + bosst = KABBBBOOOOOMMMMMMM
if you put high compression pistoons and turbo or supercharge you can only rub about 3-4 psi and if you put low compression pistons then you have to turbo it cause its doubtfull you will find a SC with a 14psi boost. if you are gonna SC it then leave the stock pistons in there. also if you do end up buying and installing the Knight kit come back and let us know.....we are still waiting on the messiah who is prophesised to one day actually fullfill this task! good luck.

Can u take a 91 engine... change out the pistons to low compression. and add larger turbos than what a stock vr4 has?

would taking the compression from 10:1 to 11:1 really make that much of a difference when it's sc'd?

High compression and low boost is the way to go if you have a supercharger that you can not run through an intercooler like the knight one. The more you compress the air the hotter it gets. Now hen the RIPP one comes out you will be better off upping the PSI and running it through an intercooler along with lower comprssion pistons.

and yes Stealthmodifier, you can take the 1st gen and swap in the vr-4 pistons with higher boost, but if you do run high boost then it would be recomendable to use better then stock internals.

There are plenty of people running TT swaps on 10:1 compression motors. Most run 6-8psi for daily driver duties. There are a few who run 12psi on upgraded turbos. This is on stock short blocks. Chris who owns importpoweronline.com ran 28 psi on a large single set up before he cracked a ringland. The only reason that happened is he was running a MBC and turned it up too high. On top of that he only had about 111 octane where he wanted around 116 for that high boost, and his stand alone had a screwy map which was only giving it enough fuel to run 21 psi. And this was around his 40th track pass running at least 12 psi each run. On top of that it was done on a stock 158k mile SL motor, bottom end that is some head work done. |
