Replacing 98 Engine with 2002

Does anyone know if a 98 ford sport engine 4.0L SOHC can be replaced with a 2002 engine of the same without any modifications, since both are Single Overhead Cam. Please let me know. Thank.

Hey I have the same year and same engine as you. My trany was slipping so I asked a shop how much they run. He told me that a 1998 explorer can only take 1998 transmissions (a one year transmission). I don't know what is different in them, but if the connection with the trany and engine is whats different then I wouldn't think another engine could connect to that trany. But that is if this is even true of 98's. If anyone can verify this please reply.
