1995 BMW 325i vs 2001 VW GTI vr6

Lookin at these two for my next car in march....

In terms of Speed, Reliability, and fun-level (for example if its a pain in the ass to get in and out of the 2door version, then not very fun).
Which do you prefer?


Also is it possible to maybe find a real early e36 m3 or 328 for the $12k price range?

Gotta go with the BMW. Rear-wheel-drive, better reliability record, better engine/tranny.

I doubt you'd find an M3 in good shape for $12,000, but a 328i is possible.

The VR6 will be faster then a non M E36 BMW, but won't be as much fun, and wont handle as well. The E36 BMWs were some of the best cars ever built IMO. Good record as far as reliability/maintenance. VWs always have little stupid electrical/mechanical problems like bad locks or power window failure.

You should be able to find a good 325is for around $12,000. I just did a Kelly Blue Book pricing on a 1995 M3 in good condition w/ 70,000miles and it cost just under $13,000. So an M3 might just be a option for you.

Good luck with your car search. Get an M3 if you can, they handle like a god.

BMW vs VW? hmmmm decisions decisions...yes 100% to the 325 because its simply fun to drive, quality, and will make you look good wherever you go...

Its actually helps alot when someone with daily experience with the vw talks about it..... i jus dont know about insurance on the bimmer. Anyway, thanks

No worries. Mine isn't a Gti but i've driven a mk4 Gti and I wasn't impressed at all. BMW 3-series are very rewarding cars to drive and easy to control when you get the back out. The lesser powered ones are good to learn on.

In conclusion, the engines are better, reliability is better, interior quality is better, and the driving experience is better. It really is no comparison.

Well stated. E36, or even E30 3 Series are great cars to learn RWD and manual transmission on. If you're worried about costs, get a 318...they're not big on power, but the gas mileage is good, the insurance is reasonable, and the handling is still there (for the most part).

318s... yea, the handlings there, but the engine is pretty weak.
