Complete Gauge modification

Hello I have a 89 honda civic DX hatchback with 4 spd manual transmission. I really really hate those guage set up in my honda, I have had 2 set of gauge fail on me twice. So basically I've had it, I'm going with a aftermarket set. I have 2 question.... For fuel gauge I can't for the life of me find out what kind of ohm the fuel sending unit put out. And also for the mechanical speedometer can I use my stock speedo cable? The gauge I'm wanting to go with is Autometer Phantom. Thank you.

P.S. I know my english sucks so don't hold it against me.

Re: Complete Gauge modification

Yeah use your stock speedo cable, the guage instructions will tell how to calibrate the gauge itself. As for the ohm output I'm not sure, maby someone else can help.

Welcome to the forum, where you from?

I got a hold of the honda dealer... Seesh what fun it is, I had to call around 5 different dealer before one would give me right answer. The fuel gauge when full it read 5 ohm.... when it's empty, it read 105 ohm. Upon hearing that, I found out that GM fuel guage uses 0ohm empty to 90 full ohm.... As close as they are, the reading would be just a little bit off. Then it hit me..... Honda and GM is backward as far as gauge reading. I wonder if there's a way to reverse the reading. Let brainstorm and see what we come up with.

Re: Complete Gauge modification

only way to reverse the reading would be to flip your sending unit up side down so that it thinks full is empty, or get an aftermarket 90ohm sending unit and install it in your tank., witch would be easyer. I had this problem when I was restoring my gremlin, AMC used like a 160ohm sending unit that I couldnt find gauges for, so I got a 90ohm univeral sending unit from summit for like $30 I think, may have been less.
