Exhaust change... problems??

Alright, I'm not the best with the mechanics side of a car so I'm likely to ask alot of what you guys would consider stupid questions around here, please bear with me!

K, I recently bought my cavalier, its the sport model coupe with exhaust and what not... when I first bought it the exhaust was LOUD you could hear it a mile away EASY... is there any reason--that I should be concerned about-- that the sound of the exhaust would have lessened? I can barely hear it at 4000 RPMs if I don't have the windows down...
