only revs to 4 grand

what would cause the engile to only rev to 4 grand, its like its on a cutoff??

what also causes a coilover kit to destroy the front struts?

I bought a 97 cav z24 from my brother and he did all kinds of tinkiering, so now its my turn to fix it all. he also hit a deer with it, but didnt damage the frame, front facia, right 1/4 and right door and hood need replacing, i figure i can just put on a body kit, since it needs all of that stuff anyways.

He also had one of those cone type air filters on it, made all kinds of racket, took that off put the original air box on, seems to run smoother and better.

Thanks for any kinds of information in advance.

Re: only revs to 4 grand

If your car is an auto, I believe it has a rev limiter on it, however in neutral I think you can rev it as high as you want.

The struts were designed for the stock springs. Obviously, time wears them out, and coilovers add nothing but HUGE pressure on them. If you go coilovers, new shocks and struts are a MUST.

A body kit won't cover the hood, door, or the fender. So might want to hit up the local Pull-n-Save.

And I would recommend putting the conical filter back on if it had the full intake. Sure it will be loud, but you will feel a performance difference too.

the car redlines higher though, it shouldnt stop reving at 4 grand though? am i correct.. actually the 1/4' s you are correct in going to the junkyard, im planning on a different hood to, something with a scoop dont know which one yet. Just got the car yesterday.

so if i put coilovers on the car an 1/2 inch or inch drop should be suffiecient? Or is that to much for the struts to handle?? i dont want to wreck stuff, just want a little stiffer ride is all.

Re: only revs to 4 grand

the 4,000 RPM rev limit is only in neutral and when driving slow than like 20MPH. Otherwise it should rev up to 6500.
