Performance difference

My little brother has also recently gotten a 1998 Acura Integra GSR (same model, and year as mine, cept his is black (the bastard)) Anyway, I drove his car, and wow... there is something different about the car, it pulls a hell of a lot more at 3k rpm's than mine does. My engine feels softer, and fluffier than his. He has no performance parts, just stock parts. I have used his air filter, to see if that was clogged, but that did not make a difference. His car has 107k miles on it, and I have 71k on mine. What could make up for the performance difference?? My car is definatly slower than it should be stock, and I don't know what it might be. Oh, he uses 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic oil, same as me cept I use 5w30 mobil 1. I'm a bit perplexed here, any thoughts?

I don't think you need a major tuneup every 30k, probably more like every 60-90k on an integra. However a tuneup definantly sounds in order if you notice such a difference. Clean, replace, or check:
air filter
fuel filter
spark plugs and wires
clean/balance your injectors
belts

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Yea, I just replaced the fuel filter today, and definatly noticed a performance increase (probalby just freeing up the power that was in the clogged filter). I'm getting a CAI from AEM soon, so I'll have a new filter with that. As to the Spark plugs and wires, I have NGK Iridium plugs, and NGK wires. The only thing I haven't done is check/balance the injectors. Can you suggest a way to do this? I've never serviced injectors other than replacing them on a 1995 honda accord. I don't even know how to test them. Also the same applies with the belts. I'm not sure what to do to check them. I know that I am getting a squeaky sound from the driver's side of my car in the engine. I can locate it to the accessory belt, but I think it's something like the idler pulley... if my car even has that, but a friend mentioned that it would make the exact sound that my car was making. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Performance difference

My car used to make a squeek from the drivers side but it would go away and come back and go away etc... i used to think it was a belt too till i figured out it was from my fan when it switched on. maybe your fan squeeks? sounded almost exactly like a belt but it wasnt...

I am pretty sure it's not the fan, it squeaks when the fan is not moving, so I really think it's something to do with the accessory belt... I wonder, is it serious? or just noise?

Hmm... I have not checked that. How would one go about checking to see if the accessory belt it tensioned properly?
