Ahh, the sound of metal on metal!

I have this exact same issue. (see my previous post - referencing other very similar unexplainable issues on this forum) 98 escort zx2

I don't see anyway it is a tie rod problem -- It does this at idle -- and often lets out a big squeal after you turn off the key...

I had my serpentine belt replaced thinking that must be the culprit. The sound started back up a couple weeks after in full force.

Yes, id rather have a chevy w/o a doubt. My serpantine belt was replaced before too. I dunno..thee brakes are fixed but now it just turning, like metal on metal.
