Loud wind noise (2001 Aurora)

driving on the highway today (happened to be fairly windy today also) i heard an incredible wind noise. At different times it sounded as if it might be coming from under the grill area, then the roof area, and then the back end. I haven't heard this before and it lasted for a while, i wonder if I chalk it up to the windy conditions?

Did you check to see if any spash gaurds came loose. They might look ok when you are stopped but look for anything that could get caught by high winds. The underside of the aurora is nothing but spash gaurds.

Do you have a moonroof? Mine is a little uneven (thank you GM engineers and/or UAW build quality) and I hear quite a roar on windy days if the wind is blowing from the passenger side of the car (but not the other way around)...

As for the sunroof, clean the rubber weatherstrip regularly with silicone spray onto terrycloth and wipe. You can reach 99% of it using the tilt-up mode. It helps it seal so much better, without sticking!

Re: Loud wind noise (2001 Aurora)

What's the difference between a moonroof and a sunroof anyway - are the terms interchangeable ?

Once upon a time there was a difference between the two. A moon roof was essentially a sunroof but did not slide back, it only popped open in the front to tilt up. This sounds like a Jeapordy question.

Though they are more or less interchangeable to me now, I always thought of a sunroof as tinted glass like everything now. I had a buddy that had a VW microbus with a moonroof (striaght out of the owners manual) that was a huge section of opaque roofing material that slid back to open up.

I have the same noise. I only hear it when it is windy. It sounds like I have a ghost in my trunk.
