i was wondering if you could help me with something, im in the military in japan at the moment and ill be back in mississippi in dec, ill have 6k saved up to dump into my 85' honda prelude, it has 170k on a rebuilt engine, manual 1.8L it runs great but id like to beef it up, what do u think i should do? i have a muffler and air filter on it. i wanna get headers/high flow cat/wheels/spoiler/airbags/bodykit but 1st i wanna work on the engine
i was gunna bore it out port polish but i think that would be a waste i think. should i just get a new V-tech and drop it in??? if i get the V-tech will i have enough money to do anything else to it?? thank you for your help navy seabee morgret |

Re: i wanna soup up my 85'lude should i drop a v-tech in it, i got 6k
first off welcome to TLD ...
okay the real first point to make is, does the body have 170k or the rebuilt engine ... you should really say you have a rebuilt engine and how many miles it has since the rebuild. beefing up the 3rd gen prelude is interesting ... but your not going to find anything in the way of parts. its bad enough for the 4th gen era preludes so i can imagine that its non-exsistant for the 3rd. why in all that is honda are you going to put airbags on a honda?! those should stick to the mini-truck scene ... unless you mean the airbags of the saftey sort then the question is still why?! boring and polishing is going to be about the only thing you can redily do to the engine without having to fabricate your own parts because im sure there is nothing for support out there ... good luck ;> i dont think any engine will fit properly in the chassis ... i would check out the way the motor mounts into the bay and then start with the 4th gen. you might be able to get a 4th gen engine relatively cheap but shipping will kill you. im 99.99% sure that you will not be able to get anything from 92+ to fit in the bay without major work being done ... add in the cost of the engine and shipping and there goes most if not all of your 6k honestly i think its great you want more out of your 85 lude ... but there just isnt much more you can get out of her. i would just keep her nice and stick and work on getting her looking as clean as possible.

I would consider getting a new car. I loved my 85 crx but had the same problem with aftermarket parts. I fabricated more for that car than I bought. Of course that was fun too. For 6 grand you could get a pretty nice car. You could get a sweet slightly modded first gen eclipse turbo, or a decent second gen eclipse turbo. I mention those because I know a bit more about where their value sits these days but there are many more sporty cars that will look as good and go as fast as your honda after dropping the money into it. Plus then you can sell the honda and invest the money into the new car, or you can use it as a reliable daily driver, or convert it into a full duty auto cross rally cross kind of car.
