little box in rear dash????

does anyone know what this box is?? i suspect that it has something to do with the power door locks. it has a plug that is a match to the radio harness, but when i unplugged it, my doors would not lock, and my keyless entry stopped working.

i am just curious about this. because, i went to the junk yard today and got a new power antenna, thinking that this would fix my radio problem. hooked it up, and still no power to the radio. i am stumpped on this radio situation, because everything is back to stock, and i have no radio. also, since i have no radio, i notice a little buzzing noise in the car when im driving. not very loud, just seems like power is going through the car somewhere. has anyone ever heard this noise??

what should i do for the radio problem. all the fuses are good, according to the tester. also, i do not have a bose system. thanks for the help..

I am absolutely guessing at this, but I thing that there may be a fuse inside the radio itself. So you may want to look into that.

i dont think so. i have a aftermarket radio, and i hooked it up to the battery, and it powered on fine. but, it will not power on in the car at all. thanks anyways, and i will try taking the radio apart.

Re: little box in rear dash????

On the back, below the plug on aftermarket radios is a fuse, it is usually 15 amp. check it and make sure it is good.

I'm not clear to what you refer. "Little box in rear dash" - What does that mean? Please elaborate and perhaps I can track down the problem with on the schematics.

when i say little box, if you look in your trunk, toward the middle, but off to the right a bit, its a little box, mounted on the back dash, in the trunk. it has the same clip as the radio, and i believe it has something to do with the door locks.

however, i can hear juice flowing through the car. i know this sounds wierd, but something is shorted out somewhere, because everything is back to stock, and i have no power to the radio.

Among other things that is the receiver module for the remote keyless entry system. Several systems pass through that module including the ignition system. Disabling that device may in fact take several systems off-line including the radio and others. I'll do some additional digging.

thanks. it did disable my keyless entry and the power door locks. i plugged it back in. i still however do not have any power to the radio. i need to know things to check, that are connected to the radio. i have checked all the fuses in the car, but i must be overlooking something. once the stock antenna internal chord snapped, when i was trying to replace the mast, thats when it happened. i have since got a stock replacement antenna, and everything is hooked back up, but no power to the radio, it will not turn on. the fuse is good. and, like i said, i can hear a little buzzing noise when i am driving the car. thanks for the help.

Re: little box in rear dash????

you need to go through all the fuses you can see and pull them out one at a time and check that way to see if they are bad. cause more times than one when I had a problem like that it was a blown fuse and the last fuse I would think to check.

im gonna do an extensive check of the whole car this weekend. i have already checked all the fuses, but i did not pull all of them out.

what do you make of the noise i hear when im driving?? it sounds like electricity moving on the right side of the car. i know it sounds wierd, but i hear it, and i dont know what it is. i suspect, it is the short, and the reason why im not getting power to the radio. thanks for the response.

well, after 4 long weeks without a radio, i have finally got it fixed. it was fuse #36 under the rear seat. while doing an extensive check of the car, i was pulling all the fuses out 1 by 1, and i got so happy when i saw that that fuse was blown. i replaced it, and wala. thanks to everyone that tried to help me.

Re: little box in rear dash????

if you replace the stock radio with another radio thats not the same , your features on the sterring wheel may not work. I thought as I was reading about your troubles, that the stock radio has a theft feature. Once this security feature is activated and some cimminal steals it, the radio won't work for the thief. That's a plus for us cause the thief probably already knows this, but doesn't necessarily know which aurora has been set.
