dealer VS private

should i buy my Z at the dealers or private sale? i think dealers are better...yea i know they are more expensive at the dealers but its more safe dont u think...u never know u mite end up buying a phuck up Z with a private sale..but at dealers,they have to fix up the car before they sell it...so wat u think?

i'd say buying from a private owner is the better way to go, just spend a day with the car, have a mechanic lined up to do a full inspection and run it through carfax and all that sorta stuff... just be educated on the cars and what to look for when buying them, and always be sure to drive the car... not take it for a stroll... DRIVE the car... drive it like you stole it... then maybe steal it...

1988 300zx turbo 5spd. 3" mandrel exhaust, filter, afco rad, e-fan, poly engine mounts, mbc at 8.5 psi, turboxs rfl-h bov, gutted plenum, etc.

blown turbo, under construction.. gt35 coming.

You're going to be better off buying from a private seller 9 times out of 10. You can usually get a better deal on the car, the people usually aren't as annoying, it's just a better way to go...there's only one situation that I can think of that a dealer would be better...if you're needing to finance a car for whatever reason...don't have the cash, need to repair credit, whatever. I wouldn't let all the sales pitches and warranties sway you. Find the car you want, go look at it...HARD...don't just glance over it...take shit apart if you want, take it for a spin...again...don't be easy on it! Don't drive with the radio on and tell the guy to shut the hell up if he's blabbering your ear off...probably cuz he's nervous about something. Listen and feel for anything that seems out of the ordinary. Z cars are very good cars so you don't have too bad of a chance of finding a good one.

Private just mainly becuase you get to know the driver and such, and the dealer doesn't tell you everything and you don't know who has been driving it, also no past records.

i also say private. dealers can also hide stuff that could be wrong, i looked at a z at a dealership and there was a knocking sound in it and i brought it to the dealers attention and he just stumbled on his words. like you already said also, a private one will almost always be cheaper than a dealership one.

private may be better but you may also find a good deal at a dealer. dealers dont like to keep cars in their lot to long cause they have to pay taxes on the cars if they don't make a sale.
a private seller may asked the same amount of money for the car as a dealer. the dealer may offer you extender warranty if the car is below 100k miles.
it doesnt matter weather is a dealer of private seller just look for the best deal

well i would say private too. 9 times out of 10 you will get a better deal.

also, DO NOT always assume that the dealer fixes everything. i happened to get a good deal on my z at the dealers because it had been sitting on their lot for a few months or so. well anyways..long story short. the dealer didnt keep good check on the fluids so by the time i got it home i had a z with 3rd and 4th grinded out of it. all because there wasnt enough tranny fluid.

z32TT take it from me, I know buying from a dealer can be a hassel. I found my Z32 at a dealership I found 5 at dealerships to be exact. But the problem is, they wont be on the front lot, or on the show room floor. They will be in the trade-in lot in back, and wholesale lot, that means they will sit there for about 2-4 days before they are gone. The sales men on the main floor make NO money on wholesale, or trade-in sales past a 98-99 year model. This means they will be less than happy to help you so more often than not you will have to do the leg work yourself. They will also not do half of the stuff that needs to be done unless you DEMAND it. I made sure they replaced the tires, balanced the wheels and other what nots, but failed to mention bleeding and flushing the brakes. I am not real happy about that but hey my mistake. But on the plus side is they will help you get the tax, title and registration on it alot cheaper than if you did it on your own. Not to mention if the car has less than 100k miles on it they will try and get it financed through a institution thats often better than what your bank is offering. My biggest rule with dealerships is, DONT TRUST THE SALESMAN. He is a salesman and he will try and shaft you, so check and double check EVERYTHING before you take delivery of the vehicle, and if you find anything wrong within the first 500miles or 15days bring it back and say it doesnt make you feel safe, this makes it a safety concern which makes the legaly obligated to fix it, under the lemon law act. Now use common sense with that last bit of info, cant say the radio not working is a unsafe feature, trust me I tried. lol. But the key is pataince, and being stout with them, and dont be afraid to just say the amount is WAY too much for that car. Dont let them know what they have, its gold to you, but its another car to them. 95% of all salesmen dont know a Honda Civic from a Nissan 300ZX. They know how to sale them not what they are or do they care what they are, do your research, snowball them with terms about the car, but do it in a aloof manor, like the car doesnt matter to you. And if they make you a good enough deal tell them you would like them to hold on to the car while you made some finale checks around with some other contacts/sorces and you need to think about it. After all it is a BIG decision. Oh and if they have a shop there on site, have the tech that did the inspection on it talk to you about it. Ask the salesman to see if you could talk to the tech about it, you want to make sure about the car. The tech most of the time wont lie to you, hes to busy to lie about a car he's already made money on, and if anything is wrong with it, he will most likely tell you, this means more work/money for him. And more knowledge for you.
The best days to go to dealerships are, saturday afternoons, evenings, and monday mornings, I mean EARLY monday. Becuase the wholesaler usually shows up monday morning around 9am to get the cars out of the back lot. If they are open on Sunday go anytime sunday is always good. Saturdays are their busiest days and they have no clue whats in the back lot, so if you can just walk back there or drive back there and look around this saves you alot of time and headaches.

Good luck you will need it with a dealership.

thanx lots of person to person time at dealerships dealing with them while looking for a 93-96 Nissan 300ZX NA or TT 2 or 2+2. I was also looking for a S14 240SX or any S15 that just HAPPENED to end up in the US.

Consensus: If you know enough about cars to spot problems, 9 out of 10 times you'll get a better deal through a private seller. I did that and paid 5k less than average market value. Then my engine exploded but hey...its all good...
