What work goes into 17" rims on a CRX?

It's really hard to search for pics of cars with 17 inch rims when the search tool won't let you type 17 because it's only 2 digits long. Anyway, I'm upgrading from 13" rims and am having lots of trouble deciding if I want 16 or 17 inch rims. I read that you have to "roll your fender" or something along those lines to fit the 17s. I don't know what that means, so if someone could explain it to me, I'd appreciate it. Since you all have such beautiful cars, I'm sure you wouldn't mind posting pics of cars with 16" and 17" rims so that I can compare. I'm thinking of dropping the car with Eibach Sportline springs some time later, so if you want to give me your opinions on this, I would be very appreciative. I was looking at tires.com for my place to buy the stuff from.

I've got a 1989 CRX DX if that helps.

Thanks for any feedback,
0SER

Re: What work goes into 17" rims on a CRX?

16 inch should be perfect for ur car. i think that 17 is too big for our cars and u dont have to roll ur fenders to fit 17s. however, if u lower ur car u should consider getting a camber adjustment kit to keep ur tires from wearing down abnormally fast from negative camber. there are alotta ppl here with 17s and 16s. i have 16s, u can see it in the sig. quiXilver has 17s on his crx, u can see it in his sig too.

I will definitely get a camber kit when I lower my car, I've read quite a few topics on these forums dealing with just that topic. I've also been reading quiXilver posts and like the look of his car, mine is red also, I was thinking of getting these rims http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...62783&bp=4-100

or these

I made a pic of the carbon colored Drivers because they aren't in that flash program they have.

I think the drivers look pretty good on the car.

Could you tell me what "roll your fenders" means? I don't want to get 17" rims and have no turning radius or have the tires bump stuff.

Re: What work goes into 17" rims on a CRX?

Rolling your fenders is where you take the inner lip of the fender or quarter pannel and literally roll it up so that it is flush where moraly it is an L shape it will be bent in where it no longer has a lip that points in. Its a really simple process and the best way that I have found is to use a burlap bag filled with lead shot (like goes in shot gun shells, you can buy it at sporting good stores) and a ballpein hammer. hold the back up against the outside of the fender or quarter panel so that it gives you a solid surface to hit agaisnt and sence its filled with hundreds of small round lead balls it contours to the surface. Start at the top of the fender and slowly start hammering it upward to where it will be flat, get it at about a 45* angle all around, then start at the top again and keep working it till its flush. This will cause the paint the crack where you are bending it so be prepaired to get it painted.

Yea, I have the eibach sportlines, and I didn't need to do anything to make them fit, you should be ok.

If you don't drop your car and get some thin tires you should be ok. I had a friend tell me that he had 18's on his and they fit just right.

20's had crossed my mind.. but to put 20's on it and still lay it on the ground I'd have to get out the cutting torch and remove part of my hood lol

After thinking about why I want the new rims and tires (mainly traction, then looks, then function) I chose 16" Konig Reasons (silver 16X7 4-100/114 40S) with Hankook VENTUS HR II H405 (205/40R-16 83H XL B). Sound good? I think they'll look good and serve their purpose. Thanks for the feedback!

Those 16's look good When I got my crx I took the 17's I had on my accord and put them on..they fit without any modification but my suspension was stock.. I later sold them and got 15's anyways though.

Re: What work goes into 17" rims on a CRX?

I have 17's and they're too big for my car, i have a 4g4d. If i were going to keep my car id probably get 16's cuz 17's are just too damn big for our small wheel wells. Now if you look onl ike 2g dsm's....those wheelwells are hugeas a mother focker.
