VW Polo engine cutting out!
I have a 1991 Polo CL, 11000cc petrol engine with manual transmission and no modifications. The fuse that is in line with the fuel pump keeps blowing, therfore causing the engine to cut out. It's been happening for the past 6 months now but there doesn't appear to be any regular pattern to it. Sometimes it will cut out on wet cold days when I have the heating, windscreen wipers and the lights on, but then other times it will happen when it's only the engine running. It was a 10amp fuse that was originally fitted, and despite upping that to a 20 and then a 30amp it is still blowing. Can anybody help me?

Re: VW Polo engine cutting out!
We didn't get Polo's here in North America, but I may be able to help some. If the fuel pump is drawing too many Amps it could be the problem, have yopu heard any whining noise from it? Also, the relay may be overheating, locate it & feel if it'ss hot next time it blows a fuse. Otherwise it might be a wiring problem, which can be difficult to find.

Re: Polo engine cutting out!
I haven't noticed any whining. Would the fuel pump just suddenly start to draw more amps for some reason, only I've had the car for 5 years and it's only just started to blow the fuse in the last 6months? I'll check the relay next time it cuts out as I had the wiring checked but there didn't appear to be any problems there. Thanks for your input.

Re: VW Polo engine cutting out!
Alot of models have the same fuse powering the O2 sensor heater. You may want to check that out too.
