Re: d16 possiblity?
They cost $6,000 from www.inlinefour.com, where my engine was only $4,000. i4 is the only site I trust to buy a Honda engine from, and couldn't bring myself to pay two grand more for 15 more hp..

Re: d16 possiblity?
6g's?? Thats a rip! I've seen most go for 3800-4400 now. I would buy it locally if you dont trust online sites.

Re: d16 possiblity?
Its just not 15hp more. 133tq vs 118 lbs of tq. I think i'd go with the 133. It makes a big difference.

Re: d16 possiblity?
Yeah well I needed one asap because I didn't have a car, and I did try locally but came up empty. In a nutshell, the b16b was my only option besides another $150 sohc.

Re: d16 possiblity?
That would be sweet if I had the money right now. Do they just bolt right in? Any machining needed at all?

Re: d16 possiblity?
Str8 bolt on.
I wouldn't spend more than 1300 on it though. Gsr shorblock would a good choice. Basically the samething except cheaper. I wouldn't pay more than 800 for one.

Re: d16 possiblity?
you guys are going of topic here. But who cares. Anyways, would the b16b mixed with the b18c1 or c5 be better than a normal b18c1 0r c5.

so i'm the only one on the planet happy with my d-series as it is?
I've driven vettes and cobras (mid-90s models, probably the worst of their breed, to be fair); after paying for the gas, insurance, and the fucking trouble that you get into; I'm glad I have my civic. Sure, if you had either of those, and you dropped the same amount of cash into them, you would have ridiculous amounts of horsepower...but what are you going to do with all that horsepower? Drive it, really quickly, in a straight line, for 1/4 of a mile?? Where do you go from there, to funny-cars? I'm obviously missing something here because I was under the impression that you build import engines because you love import engines. If all you want, is to go as fast as possible, screw getting any car, and get on a bike (600cc or liter-bike). If you live in places like Tx, I can understand the frustration - the whole state is one flat wasteland; driving those high-hp cars was fun when I lived in Tx, but I know that if i had either car here (CA), regardless of the suspension modifications i made to them, I would spend my time slipping and sliding around the mountain roads. After all that though, I would have to agree, that trying to get a 1.6l engine, to become some kind of drag-strip monster, seems like a joke...if its not for the love of your brand/engine, then I don't understand why you guys do it. What isn't a joke, is how much you all know about these engines, and that's a direct result of the time you've 'wasted' building these things. Congratulations on your car, seriously. Sorry to rant, I just figured that it was applicable to the 'why build up a d-series' question... |
