99 Dakota tranny slips from2nd to 3rd

Every time i drive it when it the truck first shifts from second to third, it will slip before it goes into third. When warmed up it will shift fine but when it is cold it will slip every time. It is a 5.2 ext. cab 4x4. Any ideas to fix this problem would be great.
