uneven braking on Jetta III

Hi:

i am a newgie to this forum. My daughter has a 1997 Jetta GL 2.0. When you step on the brakes, the car slides to the left. Her boyfriend changed the master cylinder and the hose so that it is using the front brakes. He has bleed the sytem several times and can't get the rear brake working.

Any suggestions? He disconnected the brake actuator on the rear axle.

Thanks

If it's still pulling he should check that the caliper slide pins are working properly. What bleeding method is he using, vacuum, pressure, two-person? Try another method. Could a rear wheel cylinder be frozen?

I also have a '97 Jetta GL , although I can't say I've had that problem. My guess, however, is that the brakes themselves aren't the problem. It's probably a suspension or tyre problem; out of balance or the suspension is shot or something like that.
Hopefully that will point you in the right direction .

Re: uneven braking on Jetta III

Most likely the wheel bearings are bad or the rear caliper slide pins are rusted on .. if it has the disks in the back.

Try a pressure bleeder to ensure all air is out of the system.

Re: uneven braking on Jetta III

try the height sensing poportioning valve which controls the fluid wich flows enely through the braking system
