Question 88 caprice 305

Hey, I have a few questions for u guys out there. I have an 88 caprice with a carberated 305 V8, I would like to install a full dual exhaust system including headers. I was wondering if any companies make a dual exhaust that u can just bolt right on. And I was wondering what kind of high performance headers would fit best.

Another question that I have is if I can safely put on a performance air cleaner without messing anything up. Such as any antipollution stuff, sensors, pcv valve, or anything like that. If i just plugged everything up would my car run alright?

Another question is that when I give my car any gas, (more so when I first start it up), it'll feel like no gas is getting to my carb. and the car is going to stall. It hesitates and feels like my car has no power at all. Putting dry gas in about everyother time I put gas in it helps but I cant keep on doing that. I've been told that I'm probably gonna need to rebuild my carberator. I've tryed replacing my spark pluggs and wires, and fuel filter but nothing has worked. Do u guys have any other ideas?

One last Question is whether or not anybody has any advice about putting in a new posi-rearend. Such as websites, brands or whatever.

Thanks for reading and writing. Any advice about either question please reply.

Re: 88 caprice exhaust system

Exhaust: It's easier and cheaper to have a muffler shop custom-bend a dual exhaust setup. Keep in mind that you can only do cat-back, but all the mounting points for duals is already there.

Air Cleaner: You're ok w/aftermarket, as long as you plug the vacuum hoses that were going to the factory one. The help get warm air into the engine when first started. You also have a hose from the passenger side valve cover to the air cleaner. This is the "breather". You don't have to plumb it into the aftermarket air cleaner, just use a valve cover breather.

My carb did the same as yours. I replaced the carb and the carb-to-manifold gasket and re-torqued it after three or four heat cycles. Problem solved.

Posi? You could retrofit a posi unit inside the differential, or spend a lot of money and get a whole rear end.

Good luck

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I'm just wondering why a shop can't make it a dual exhaust from the headers back if I get the headers with the holes for the o2 sensor. Is it a pollution thing or something?

Re: 88 caprice exhaust system

EPA says you cannot modify the exhaust system in any way that alters the (original) position of the cat.

HUGE fines for you and the shop that does it - plus the shop could lose its business license
