Re: Compression Ratio Question
I wouldnt go calling ZC's trash right away. Almost all of the people who have blown them do it because of this reason simple: The PG7 ecu rev limit is 7500rpms! The PM7 which is the ecu for the DOHC ZC's has a rev limit of 7200. Most people forget that and go redlining their ZC's to 7500 then it blows up and their like what the fuck. Also it depends on who your getting it from. The company I got mine from hot runs them unlike most places, meaning the start the motor up and run it. Other places only compression check em and leak down. Also it depends on the driver and how you take care of it. Most fucks just beat the shit out of em. Of course if you beat a motor it's gonna go bad. As for finding parts. Not a problem. 89 Integra is your answer to the bottom half and head. 91 crx to the rest and 88 prelude for the timing belt. As for aftermarket support, check www.dh-racing.com. Just my 2 cents.
BTW, I would recommend RisingSun Engines over any company. I have gotten a used transmission and a used DOHC ZC from them and I can't complain at all. |

Re: Compression Ratio Question
Mellow It all depends on the motors, How they are put in so on. I know of Two People who Blew up 5 motors this summer.
one guy blew up 3 B18C and 2 B16a the other guy Blew up 2 B20's 2 LS's and a B16. so using your analogy the B18C, B16, B20, B18A are garbage because they blow up. and when I say blow up, they Split sleves, pistons shattered, Rods broke, and once it spun a Brand new bearing. the truth of the matter is there are many different variables involves with the motors. I had a DOHC ZC and liked it quite a bit. I just swaped in favour of a b16 for a stronger transmission. One of my boys has a Fully built ZC that is quite quick and will give most B16 a run for there money, aftermaket support is there now you just need to know where. K

Re: Compression Ratio Question
Yeh its all true but i've hardly heard any horror stories about b and d series motors goin out like that. All five of my boys are very good at doin swaps. We did everything right. Some how it just all fucked up on us. I mean the cams broke in half, gaskets blew...it was just a mess. You're also right about the motors condition. But come on 5 out of 5 times? Its just enough for us to be convinced to stay away from ZC motors for good. I'd choose the sohc vtec over ZC anyday.
B16a trannies are garbage! They always have a problem with third gear

Quote:
According to helms, the service limit for warpage on D16s is 2 thousands for heads and 4 thousandths for the block. Your "friend" milled off 26!!! If I were you I'd be more worried about valve to piston clearance than what kind of gas to put in it.

Ok... I'm all sorts of confused now....
Do the D15 and D16 have different heads? if not... how is the D16 a 1.6L? Do they have different blocks? and it IS possible to just put MPFI on the D15 head right? and if I wanted to put the cam from a D16 in there... Would it be easier just to switch to the D16 head? and some of you guys crushed my dreams of riding the DOHC train... lol... I really wish I had the money to throw together a Ls/Vtec... DROOL! But I'm still considering sticking with the D-Series and turbo'ing... or maybe even NOS... but I don't like Nos... everyone has Nos.... Turbo's sound so much sexier.... But anyway.... I'm sure I'll come up with more questions... But if anyone could answer those for me... that'd be great. |
