94 Olds Air
Submitting this question for my dad .... He has a 1994 Old 88 and recently had his alternator replaced. After that happened, when he runs the air, the left 2 vents are blowing cold air and the right 2 vents are blowing hot air. His mechanic is a little older, and not all to familiar with "newer" cars, and he said that the compressor is bad. I tried looking on the forums here and saw 2 possible reasons/solutions.

I initially thought that since there are 2 temperature controls (main & passenger) that he could have 2 compressors. Then After reading the first thread, I was thinking that when the mechanic replaced the alternator (which was just replaced in june) might of shorted something out. No man it's not your compressor, my 95 LSS does this too, it's real simple. Behind the glove compartment there are heating/cooling ducts which have control flapper doors to shift from cold to hot air going through the ductwork. For whatever reason, the flapper is stuck on "heat" position and needs to be moved over. I think it gets over extended and jammed then when the A/C controller tells it to move to the cold position it can't because it's jammed. Here's what I do, open the glove box and get behind to locate the flapper and pull it so the controller can take over, all you need to do is remove the bind it's in and it'll go back to normal. If you can't get to the flapper there, look under the dash on the pass side and try to locate it there. good luck

One more thing, there aren't 2 compressors, only one, this ain't no steam ship it's a car, the passenger controls simply use the flapper doors on the duct work to change slightly the temperature on their side, that's probably what's causing the problem to begin with, too fancy of control doors on the ductwork that is allowing things to break or jam.
