Question Belt squeel on start up

I have a 97 DOCH neon... when i start it up the altornator belt squeels.. and sometimes when i let it idol (like by a stop sign). After running it for a lil while it wont do it ( like if i shut it off for 5 min it wont do it when starting it back up) the altornator seems to be fine, the belt is still in good condition, and seems to be tight enough... if i rev the engine while its squeeling it stops it?? any answers for me?

Make sure the belts are tight enough... not just visually but physically.

I had the same problem with my neon. The belts looked good until I took them off, and the inside of the belt was all tore to hell. I ended up changing both belts on my car and it runs very good now. The belt that was bad on my car was the alternator belt. Good Luck.
