Angry help 84 diesel stalling

ok bought this 84 6.2 L diesel 5 days ago, then all of a sudden it stalled when it should have been shifting. got it back around the block to the house after it did not start right way and its studdering the whole way. let it sit a while tried to go again studering loss of power just before it would shift. This time when i looked under the hood you could see that something was smoking a little i check the area were the smoke was coming from, around where the glow plug is theres some fluid. i think it was diesel fuel.

What should i check help please thanks!!!

While it was stuttering, did you notice any smoke from tailpipe(s)?

Did it Feel/Sound like a Dead miss or was it random?

Diesel fuel near the Glow Plug? That's near the injector too. Are the fuel lines tight in the injector?

Have you checked simple things like Air/Fuel filters?

its running now humm

the air filter was replaced abot 300+ miles before this. After letting sit while send the post and then trired starting it a little bit of smoke did come out the tail pipes. i noticed that one of the glow plug wires was like it it was about to fall off the plug reseated that and it seem to run good after that. Went to Autozone got a fuel filter and change that to.

The glow plugs work just like the spark plugs would on a gasoline engine it would miss fire??? because that one wire that went to the glow plug has a loose fit along with a couple others,im guessing it vibrated loose??

Is there a good brand of glow plugs and wire that some could recommend?

Thanks for the help she seem to be running like before, would like to keep her happy!!

Glow plugs DO NOT work like spark plugs on a gasoline engine. Glow plugs pre-heat the combustion chambers to aid in starting (especially during cold months). Spark plugs are used to start the ignition cycle in every cylinder(thousands of times every minute).

Remove all connections to the glow plugs and close the gap on the connector. Re-connect them. Make sure the wire fits tight on the plug. You might also have some bad plugs to begin with.

Re: help 84 diesel stalling

diesel engines ignite the fuel by compressing it so much that the fuel/air mix gets so hot it burns

Re: help 84 diesel stalling

It called thermodynamics and is the same principle in refrigeration except you don't compress to ignition.

"diesel engines ignite the fuel by compressing it so much that the fuel/air mix gets so hot it burns"

If I may... Diesel engines compress intake air (only) to the point that it gets so hot, it ignites diesel fuel as it is injected into the compressed air.

GM replaced the AC-11G glow plugs with the AC-60G in 1999. Do not waste your money on AC-11G or the older AC-9G. Lucas CAV-11G can also be used instead of the AC-11G or AC-9G.
