Hey all,
My Grand am just passed 65,000 miles and want to give it a tune-up and service before Winter (I live in Canada and winters can hit -30 c). I want to put in NGK G-Force platinum spark plugs, clean my K&N air filter and an oil change, with 5W-30. What else can I do or should I do for a tune-up? and are those Platinum spark plugs the best for my 2.4 litre engine? I wanna maximise mileage and power if possible. Thanks for any info. |

Re: Tune-up for 99 Grand Am
I would go with an OEM replacement platinum plug, "better" plugs dont really have too much of an advantage when the rest of your engine is stock, and they usually dont last as long because they just spark hotter than normal plugs. You could do some preventative maintnece at 65k like change the transmission fluid and filter, inspect and/or change the plug wires while you are replacing the plugs, flush the cooling system if it hasnt been done yet, that about covers all bases for a tune up

..almost forgot, replace the pcv valve while your at it, it may not need it but its only a $2 part and can prevent some problems that will occur if it goes bad

Re: Tune-up for 99 Grand Am
Gimmicky plugs are not worth the money. Stick with OEM AC-Delco platinum plugs and don't forget the plug connectors and the coil housing.
