cv-axles 2001 blazer

I noticed an oily substance under the fender wells about two weeks after having my tortion bars adjusted to level out my 2001 Blazer 4x4 (about 3/4" raise). I took it to a dealership because I have an extended warranty. They said the boots were torn, the seals are leaking and my cv axles were worn out. I only have 55,000 highway miles on the blazer and have it serviced regularly. My extended warranty company said they would not pay for the $1400 repair job because I should have replaced the torn boots.

1) Is this a common problem and would they wear out that fast?

2) Is there a chance the axles are not worn out but the dealership just wants the warranty work?

3) What happens if I just replace the boots and leaky seals?

Have your tortion arm mounts checked. The side that the boot tore might be bad. A bad tortion mount causes the suspension to flex to much and will cause fatigue and premature failure of the rubber boot.

You also mentioned leaky seals. Where? The half axle joints are sealed by the boot.

If the repair is out of warranty, have an independent check it and price the repair. A half axle shouldn't run more than $175 list, we buy them for $50 with a core charge of $120 (average). The install time shouldn't be more than 2 hours on a lift.

Thanks. I got a second opinion @ the dealer I bought it from. They said just repair the boots and the seals and it will be fine, BUT, they have not started repairs and they might find some wear so the seals may still leak. The leaky seals are about mid-axle. The warranty will pay for this work.

I hope the small amount of lift I got from the t-bars is not going to give me trouble. It was only enough to level out the front and back. It was only about two weeks later they started leaking.
