Re: 4.3l vortec interchange

The 96 and newer heads will not work on a 93 because on the 96+ (casting #'s 772/140/113/114/115 ) have a notch in the intake runners that will cause a disturbance in the air flow. As long as the heads have a casting number ending in 181/209/064 you can use them. They come with either a press in stud or a screw in type. Either one will work but with the press in studs you will have to do a rocker arm adjustment and the screw in have a positive stop. Just torque them to 20 ft lbs.. Some of the older heads with casting #'s 768/248/103/067 have a recess in between the intake ports that make them different. Warning, stay away from the 070 casting heads, 90% of them crack down the left spark plug hole which is unrepairable.

the geometry of the heads are the same as far as bolt holes go but I would be concerned about the wiring harness and such. I mostly deal with heads.
